The New York rapper, who was one of the four people shot during a backstage melee at a recent T.I. concert, has been charged in the death of friend and associate Ronald “Banga” McPhatter. Releasing his latest Free Troy Ave mixtape yesterday (June 6), Ave opens up on the project by explaining his side of the story and admits to retaliating at someone who attacked his team.
“Locked in a jail but I’m gonna get free / I wear icy gold chains can’t no brass break me / P***y n***a tried to assassinate me / I took the gun, turned the tables ’round like a G / R.I.P. my n***a B-A-N-G / Couldn’t make your funeral, but I heard that you was fleek.”
Later in the track, he claims he’s innocent of the crimes he’s being charged with. However, since attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon are two of the counts he faces, nothing seems to be cleared up about those charges in his lyrics.
Troy Ave could face even more charges after the NYPD released backstage footage of a man who looks like Troy, real name Ronald Collins, firing a gun several times at people. It was also recently revealed that a firearm found in the vehicle Troy Ave used to drive to the hospital after the incident matches, through ballistics, what would’ve been the gun used in the shooting. The three other people, including Ave, are still recovering from their injuries but are expected to be OK.
Investigators are currently searching for a second gunman as well. Troy Ave’s legal team is claiming that another individual was the one who shot their client in the leg and McPhatter in the chest.
